EXPLORING DALKEY AND KILLINEY

The area is famous for scenic beauty and long history, first inhabited by Stone Age Settlers 3500 BC. During the middle ages it was Dublin's main port and an important place of commerce. It was fortified with six castles built in the 14-th and 15-th century.

The Martello Tower on Dalkey Island was built in 1804, one of the many built around the coastline during the Napoleonic Wars. There are boat trips available to the Island from Coliemore Harbour. Onward from the harbour, Sorrento Park is an interesting place for a walk.

Vico Road overlooking Killiney Bay is often compared in beauty to the Bay of Naples. Access to Dalkey-Killiney Hill and Park is possible from Vico Road and Dalkey Avenue car park. From top of the hill the views over Killiney Bay to Wicklow, Dun Laoghaire and Dublin are spectacular.

COUNTY WICKLOW

County Wicklow is known as the "Garden of Ireland". A visit to Powerscourt near the village of Enniskerry is recommended.

Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford, Glendalough and the Vale of Avoca should not be missed.
